Fix the record: the step most homes have never done

Of 20 independent Essex care homes checked on 31 October 2026, seven had their own public records contradicting each other. None of these are judgements about care. They are clerical, and they are exactly the kind of thing an assistant trips over.

What "the record" is

Four pages, all public, all read by assistants when a family asks: your CQC location page, your carehome.co.uk listing, your Google Business Profile, and your own website. The assistant treats them as four witnesses. When they agree, it has a home it can name. When they don't, it has a doubt, and it doesn't name homes it has doubts about.

What was found

A nursing home whose website phone number was different from the one registered with CQC. A home whose contact page names a manager who is not the registered manager on the CQC record. A home whose site postcode differs from its CQC postcode by one letter. A home whose accreditations page states one rating in one paragraph and the opposite in the next. A group whose two sites both print a web address for one of their homes that doesn't resolve. Two homes whose only email is a free webmail address that appears nowhere on CQC. One home whose brand-new Good rating is missing from its own site while the directories still show the old one.

The fix

Decide the correct version of each fact: legal name and trading name, address and postcode, phone, registered manager, number of beds, care types, website address. Then make all four records match it, starting with CQC because the others copy from it. Most of this is a form, an email to a directory, and an afternoon.

Why it comes first

Because it costs nothing, it needs no new content, and it removes the reason the assistant was leaving you out. The pages and the Google posts come after; they only work once the records agree.
